What is a laparoscopic hysterectomy, or what is known as a hysterectomy?

جراحة استئصال الرحم بالمنظار

Hysterectomy is the most common gynecological procedure, and it is a surgical procedure used to remove the uterus either through the abdomen or through the vagina.

Laparoscopic hysterectomy in Jordan, it is known that the uterus is one of the organs of a woman's reproductive system, and the uterus is the same

Where the fetus is incubated, but there are cases in which the uterus must be removed completely or partially

Reasons for hysterectomy:

Hysterectomy is usually the best treatment option, after other options fail to do so, hysterectomy results in a woman’s inability to become pregnant and have children and not have menstruation, so this surgery is resorted to in emergency cases, including:

  • Uterine fibroids, which are non-cancerous (benign) growths that form in the uterus and cause pain and severe bleeding in women.

  • Cancer such as uterine or endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer , and cervical cancer . Treatment in this case depends on the type of cancer, its degree in the body, and the appropriate treatment based on that.

  • Endometriosis (endometriosis), a condition that occurs when the inner lining tissue of the uterus grows outside the uterus. Hysterectomy is resorted to after hormonal therapy and simple medical procedures fail to remove these tissues.

  • Adenomyosis, a condition that occurs as a result of the growth of the endometrium inside the muscles of the uterus, causing an enlarged uterus, pain and severe bleeding.

  • Abnormal bleeding: The abnormal uterine bleeding occurs as a result of endometriosis, and the occurrence of hormonal imbalances.

  • Uterine prolapse, or uterine prolapse, which is an abnormal condition in which the uterus moves from its normal location to the vagina. It usually occurs in women as a result of frequent (natural) vaginal delivery, weight gain, or menopause .

  • Placenta accreta and occurs as a result of the growth of the blood vessels that make up the placenta in the uterine wall to become part of it, in this case a cesarean delivery is usually performed followed by a hysterectomy.

Laparoscopic surgery in hysterectomy:

Recent advances in the field of gynecological surgeries have helped reduce complications associated with these procedures through the use of advanced laparoscopic technology in that. Laparoscopic hysterectomy requires small incisions in the abdomen instead of the old surgeries that make a large incision in the abdomen. Abdominal surgery results in greater blood loss, increased risk of infection, scarring, hospital stay for 2-3 days, and a longer recovery period of up to 4-6 weeks, while it is within two weeks when using the endoscope.

Types of hysterectomy:

  • Partial hysterectomy through hysterectomy while preserving the cervical region. This is the easiest and safest procedure among hysterectomy operations, after which a woman needs to have a continuous Pap smear.

  • Total Hysterectomy This includes a hysterectomy with the cervical region.

  • Radical hysterectomy, in this case, the uterus and neck, in addition to the ovaries and fallopian tubes, are removed.

How to use a laparoscope in a hysterectomy:

Laparoscopic hysterectomy is performed under general anesthesia, and takes a period of time that depends on the size of the uterus and the patient's condition, and this is done using:

  • Laparoscopy is done through the doctor making small incisions in the abdomen (in the navel area), then inserting a thin, flexible tube at its end with a telescope (a small device consisting of a camera and a light source) and then introducing carbon dioxide gas in order to swell the abdomen and separate its wall from Organs so that the doctor can see the organs clearly and remove the uterus without any damage to the neighboring organs. This method is most appropriate if the woman suffers from adhesions in the vagina as a result of previous operations, or suffers from an enlarged uterus.

  • Colposcopy, in this procedure, the hysterectomy is removed through the vagina through a small incision. Usually this method is used in cases of adhesions in the abdomen, or in cases of uterine prolapse.

Laparoscopic hysterectomy cost in Jordan with Dr. Qassem Shehab:

The direct cost is slightly higher than the cost of the laparotomy, due to the need for high-quality laparoscopic devices, as is the case at Abdali Hospital. Also, there is a need for an experienced surgeon in laparoscopic surgery in the most modern international centers (Dr. Qassem Shehab, a certified laparoscopic surgeon from the British Association). However, if the prices are compared to a greater recovery period for abdominal incision, difficulty returning to work, and a higher risk of wound infection and the use of expensive antibiotics, we find that the final cost is much lower.

Is it possible to remove the uterus without the ovaries?

Certainly! This is what we encourage, especially for young people, less than 45 years old. But the patient's final decision remains.

What is the duration of the eradication process and how long does it take?

Usually an hour and a half. But it may be sacked or more, depending on the difficulty of the situation
